How do I start a Minecraft world and server?
Minecraft is not worth that kind of time anymore, it really is not. Minecraft is just a shell of what it used to be and putting that kind of time, effort, and money is would just be a waste.
While starting your own Minecraft server can be potentially rewarding for you & your friends, there are few cautionary things I have to mention.
1) You'll generally want to keep the computer running the server software 24/7 as much as possible -- Unless you're planning to be restrictive on server accessibility (which you'll have to be forward with your userbase on this), you'll want to make the server available for all users at all times.
You can utilize to see how many players your system can support at one time.
2) You will need to know HOW to access & configure your router -- If you want to make the server available to friends OUTSIDE your own home, you'll need to set up port forwarding on the router it knows which computer to send inbound requests to.
3) Make sure your computers, router & security software is up-to-date -- Setting up & running a server does increase your security risks, so it's a bit more imperative to keep things secured on your side.
4) Make sure your ISP allows servers on your connection -- Some ISP's forbid users on residential connections from running their own private servers, which can be hidden in their TOS & could allow them cancel your service for breaking TOS. However, your ISP may allow it for an extra cost.
If you're not comfortable with this, you may want to pay a company to manage the server for a couple of bucks a month (depending on the size of the world & the number of players you want to support at one time).
You can download the "vanilla" server software from Minecraft's website itself ( ) & visit to get one set up & properly run it.
Hope this helps!
