Almost all the youtube videos on how to make a minecraft server don't work so does anyone have a server that no one knows about and that they don't use

Don't waste your time with some video on youtube. Go to the Minecraft site, or the bukkit site, and follow their very simple instruction. It doesn't take ten minutes to get a server up and running. There's nothing magical, you simply download the program, configure it if desired (real good idea), and start it. Presto, you have a minecraft server.
If you want others on the Internet to see and join, you need to forward the port from the router to the computer running the server. Get your router instructions and RTFM.
I don't know about 1.7.9, but there's this website that creates a minecraft server for you.
you just sign up and then when you are signed in you can create your own server and the cool thing about it is you can use a bunch of available mods and plugins
