No you don't have to pay to join servers. You have to pay if you want your own server but to joining other servers is free.

No you don't pay to go onto servers. But you can donate to the servers to get special items and stuff. So if you want to go ahead and get minecraft you will only have to pay for the game itself. Hope I helped!
