Random spawn points in Minecraft?

Okay, so I just started playing Minecraft again,
I started a new game, marked where I landed and started building a shelter around that and then continued exploring. When finished I 'save and quit to title'
when I came back to continue my game, I didn't spawn in the original location but where I was last. I tried dying but ended up in a completely new area with my original shelter nowhere to be seen.

Is this a new thing in Minecraft 1.8? Is it a glitch? Does anyone know how can I find my original spawn point?

This is not a glitch, when you exit the game and go back into it. You will spawn at where you last exited from and when you die you should spawn within 1 chunk of the original spawn point. To set a permanent spawnpoint for you, you will need either to sleep on a bed or do /spawnpoint in game.

Try making a compass and that should point you to your spawn and I don't know why you didn't spawn in the same spot you originally did.
