Are you trying to save it to the ps cloud? In that case yes you do.
If its a local save or world transfer, then no.

If its ps4 you can play the offline mode without psn + , you just can't play online or upload any levels you make
why anyone with a ps4 doesn't have psn+ though I have no idea, do you think its a waste of money to get all of those free games, doscounts and have cloud backups of saves? You are getting at least $500 in value for $50 and as a bonus you can play games online
