Why did my fat 80gb PS3 get the YLOD?

I got my fat 80 gb PS3 with the 4 ports at the front back in 2006 and I've been playing on it ever since. I never had any problems with it besides freezing but that's normal because every PS3 including the slim models freezes. I take care of my PS3, I don't abuse it like my friends do, I turn it off after I'm done playing unlike my friends where they would leave it on for hours without playing. I tried my best to avoid my system from getting then YLOD by putting it on a shelf with lots of space for it to breathe, there are no electronics near it, I sometimes clean the system from dusts inside the vents but despite all those things, I still get the YLOD! It died yesterday while playing Minecraft and they day before, it was making a loud weird nose but I didn't think it was anything serious. I don't understand why my PS3 got the YLOD when I took good care of it, it's still amazing that my PS3 lasted for 7 years. It sucks that it broke but at least I'm getting the PS4 tomorrow.

It just wore out, it happens and there's no preventing it. Everything eventually breaks down no matter how well it's taken care of, some things just quicker than others. It's unfortunate but it's just natural entropy.

Simple, it was a 7 year old console, that was a long time for any console or computer to work.
did you think it would last forever? They wear out eventually because both the moving parts like the disc drive and the electronics have a limited life.

Actually the 80gb models didn't came out tel 2007. And things ware out over time. Ill say 7 years is a good run. And if you didn't know this But if your ps3 freezes alot you should of try restore system file on safe mode witch is like a back up menu It gets rid of some of the glitches.

It is truly disappointing but it is a fact of life! My PS3 lasted me a good 7 years too and only a few months ago I got YLOD and was forced to upgrade to the shockingly laggy and cheap-feeling super slim. Although it is a hard moment to go through, at least the PS3s are now cheap and surprisingly the new generation consoles are too!

Condolences to you sir for your loss. RIP
