There were new updates for Minecraft: Ps3 Edition that i download and i thought was pretty cool, so i decided to invite my friend to come play in my server but then after he downloads the updates, it says he has never bought the game before and he now needs to repurchase it to play, and i know he has gotten this game because he played the game with me before. He restarted his ps3 and still no change, what else is there to do?

Are you sure he bought it or did he game share? If he game shared the other person might have deactivated their account from his system and changed the password which would require he buy the game himself
otherwise it could be just that he needs to delete and reinstall the game and make sure he activates his ps3 console ( account management ) with the account he bought it on
