Minecraft pc. Same Wi-Fi. Multiplayer?

My friend and i are playing minecraft side by side on the same Wi-Fi, we want to create a world for just the 2 of us that we can play when we're on the SAME Wi-Fi. Is this possible? Its weird how its simple on pocket edition but not pc.

Yes, that works, I've done it before. There are two ways.

1. Download the server file on the minecraft website and set up your own server. Your friend should be able to log on.

2. Have one of you make a new world (whoever has the fastest computer) and hit the start button (on Windows). Press Open LAN and it will give you a set of numbers. Have the other person choose multiplayer on the main menu and type in those numbers using direct connect. It should work. If it doesn't, type in your network's IP address before the numbers that minecraft gave you. That should fix it.
Note: Open LAN has only worked when playing on the same Wi-Fi in my experience, so for your scenario, it should be ok

(If you don't know what an IP is then look it up on google or something)
