It seems that none of the mod downloaders available online work for the newest version of Minecraft, 1.7.4. Is there one I haven't heard of?
Why can't I find an up to date mod downloader for Minecraft?

To the best of my knowledge there are not. There were a lot of changes when the version moved to 1.7.X, a lot of mod downloaders weren't even up to 1.6.4 when 1.7.X came out, so the mods are a little behind.
