First thing first - what's your budget?
You can get a decent pre-built desktop for around the £500-£600 mark which will obviously come with a warranty so you can have piece of mind if anything were to go wrong.
Saying that if you spent the same amount on building your own computer you would get a far superior machine, whilst also understanding the ins and outs of the comp. However this has its cons such as no warranty, parts might not be compatible ect.
Also remember that when you buy from places like alienware ect - you are paying extra for the brand name!

(An ok start point)

My personal option would be find a good pre-built comp - then source your own components and make it yourself for cheaper!
I'm using a computer that's not exactly made for gaming, but it's got the capabilities to run them. I HAVE installed the shaders mod on my Minecraft, and it runs with all settings on high fine. League runs high character quality with medium shadows and high map textures and I get 60 FPS (because of the capability mode I'm forced to play in, if I can disable it, I'd get 140+ FPS).
It's an ASUS laptop from Best Buy (if you live in the States) and it costs $1099 (for the laptop only) buy it's around $13XX.XX if you pay for the additional services like Geek Squad and all that. IIRC it's also the most expensive laptop that they keep in stock, as the expensive Alienware computers/laptops are all ordered from the Alienware website/company and shipped to Best Buy.
Guess what? 2000 dollars would get you an insanely powerful computer. Your minimum budget would be closer to 1000.
Go to PCpartpicker.com and see what you like in various builds, look for an i5 build rather than i7.
