How to install minecraft mods?

I'm bad with technolagy for the most part, But what I do know is how to instal texture packs and maps. I was hoping there was a mod folder in the.minecraft folder, but I don't see one, I have no clue how to back up of anything like that any answers? I have the mod and everything. Btw I have 1.7.4

You'll have to specify which mod. Normally you will have to replace the.jar file in your appdata.
