How to download mods for minecraft? - 1

Okay i'm a huge noob when it comes to technical stuff so just hear me out ok? I've spent hours trying to figure out how to download mods and all that. I've bought minecraft and i know how to go on servers and all that but my problem is mods. I have downloaded forge on my computer but there was an error saying i needed to have to manually open minecraft version 1.6.4 and i have that version so i deleted forge. I have no clue what.jar is and.zip files and all that jazz. Please i need a huge tutorial on how to do all this stuff. I know how to open files but i don't know how to extract files and all that. Please help this poor noob! D:

I have the 1.6.4 Minecraft Version. I don't know the following terms: plug-ins, add ons, , zip.jar, etc.

Just go to Skydaz.com from there you can download auto installers for the mods you want. I still use it even though I can do it manually. Basically there are guides on the website to downloading mods but I'll try and explain as best I can.

You'll need to download this: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm (click the 64 bit version at the top of the page.)

Step 1: Search for the mod or just browse until you find one that you like.
Step 2: Click the download button for the.zip not.exe (You don't need to know what they mean I just prefer.zip it works better for me)
Step 3: Click the install button
Step 4: ALWAYS back up your minecraft, it will ask you if you want to back up your minecraft when you click the install button.
Step 5: Wait until a message pops up that says something like "Successfully installed (something) mod!" (Not sure what the exact message is)
