I have been playing Minecraft a while (on my Macbook air 11 inch) and recently it has gotten SUPER hot and crashes a lot. I thought it was because my start up disk was almost full but I cleared that ages ago. I also have cleared All my mods and use the latest version of Minecraft. Also I quit every application before I play AND I raise my computer but NOTHING works!
Computer crashing when playing Minecraft?

I never had a macbook, but if it only happens while playing minecraft, you could try to reinstall java & Minecraft itself

I'd suggest installing something like speccy and monitoring your temperatures while playing minecraft.
Anything over 90* Celsius is in the danger zone and the processor will underclock itself to reduce heat. Around 100*Celsius and the processor can become permanently damaged and will shut the computer down to prevent damage.
If you want to keep playing on it I'd suggest getting a laptop cooler
also If you want to know more here's a video about safe PC temperatures
