Minecraft is not responding?

I just bought the redeemable code for minecraft pc in gamestop. I have it downloaded and I have the 1.7.9 update. But when I create the world and it loads, It says minecraft not responding.

Any advice for a first time pc gamer?

Make sure that your minecraft is updated correctly. Up to date. If it isn't you can try updating it or deleting the whole thing and download it off of minecraft.net

Hmm… Lets see you don't really need to use the latest version for Minecraft.
I think in my perspective is to use version 7.5.
Think that's the best one.

Also just a question you need to Be Up-to-date With you Java so always check that and maybe if you have a computer / laptop that is really slow give it some time.
