Minecraft I can't connect to my on sever 1.7.4?

Me and my friends are trying to play minecraft. I have two computers in my house one is to have the sever on and one i play minecraft with. I can't connect to the sever with the one i play minecraft with but the other computer i can connect with. I tried

1) Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
2) Copy the file "hosts" to where ever you like, it's just temporary
3) Open the file with notepad and remove any line with Minecraft in it
4) Save and close the file and put it back in the etc folder and overwrite the old one
5) Have fun playing Minecraft again

i also massed around with my firewall but nothing seems to work

You should never touch the hosts file unless you know *exactly* what you are doing. And to play minecraft, you *never* need to touch the hosts file. Whoever told you to do this has no clue what they are saying, don't listen to them! You should never have any minecraft entries in the hosts file to start with - they should never have been put there.

To connect to the server, you need the ip address of the computer. Not your internet ip, but the actual ip address of the computer running the minecraft server. You also need to make sure the firewall on that computer is off. Turn the firewall off on the computer you are trying to connect from also, just to make sure it isn't the problem.

If the firewalls are off, and you have the correct ip of the server computer, and it still doesn't work then you probably messed the server.properties file. The line server-ip= should be *blank*. There should NOT be an ip address listed there unless the computer has two active nics, and I doubt that is the case. Also make sure the server-port=25565 line has not been tampered with.
