How to update torrented version of Minecraft?

I haven't played my torrented Minecraft since 1.5.2. I want to start playing again, but I can't update to 1.7.2. I have clicked the "force update" button, and it said it updated, but I'm still on 1.5.2.

You need to get the latest minecraft launcher. Go to here https://minecraft.net/...t/download then you download the link that is for the type of computer you have. I got mine under Minecraft for Mac OS X because the Mac is the type of computer I use. Once it was downloaded I put the new launcher into my bar thingy after following the steps it had me do.
