I plan on making minecraft youtube videos when i get my microphone but whenever i try to record, i always get random lag spikes and random frame drops. When i play minecraft without recording, i get about 160 fps. Whenever i press the record button, it goes down to 60fps and after a few minutes of recording, a very big lag spike appears and i get 20fps. I use fraps to record and i have full size selected because i want hd videos, whenever i record with half size selected, i get about 80fps without any lag spikes but its not hd:/ and i own a windows 8 laptop. Upgrade your RAM, delete temporary files, defrag your hard drive.

Unfortunately, recording your screen is an extremely computer~intensive process. It would probably help if you listed your PC specs, and be as precise as you can.
Fraps is one of the older screen recorders, although since you have (it seems) already paid for it, you may not be wanting to switch.
The programme I use is nVidia Shadowplay, available as part of the Geforce Experience, and is ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH GTX650 OR NEWER GRAPHICS CARDS (that's a kind of important one!)

There are countless programmes available for download that allow you to record 1080p Youtube videos: Fraps is NOT your only option, by any means!
