How to play LAN on Minecraft 1.7.4?

Me and a friend want to play Minecraft on LAN, but for some reason when I open my world to LAN, it doesn't show up on his multiplayer list. We're in the same house with the same internet connection.

Make sure you both have the same version of the game and one is not cracked and the other is premium, check your firewalls blocking any incoming connections from your friend's laptop, that's all I have. Hope it helps.
