You just have to right click on your mouse and the thing which you see on the inventory will appear on the ground.

In terms of the question, yes you do just have to right-click with whatever is in your inventory and it will appear on a surface.
Certain items like tools, potions, food, swords, and mob drops are exempted from this function.
