How to find charcoal in Minecraft?

You can't find it. You have to burn logs in a furnace to get it.

Don't you burn wood and get it after the fire?

I don't play… Just a guess

Make a furnace, get wooden planks and wood logs, put planks in the bottom and wood logs in the top of the furnace (right click to open the furnace). Or you could dig down or cave and find coal, there the same thing.
