The only legally free version of minecraft is not for a PC, it is for a Raspberry Pi, which is a $35 computer on a credit card size circuit board developed to encourage young people to get interested in programming. While it has the graphics for mobs, it is basically survival mode. Even if you use a hex editor to change the gamemode to survivial, all that does is give you night and day instead of eternal daylight.
