How does the /sethome command work in minecraft pc?

I've been trying to set my home by using the /sethome command. And it's set but it isn't working. How do i fix the problem?

The sethome command is on servers with bukkit, or single player commands for singleplayer. The full command is /sethome (name) The name can't be a single number.

If you are playing single player you would need to install a mod to allow multiplayer server commands on a single player game (if I could find it again) but honestly, it's just simpler to sleep in a bed then install and maintain a mod. Although having more than one home could be nice…
