Hard or soft gaming mouse mat?

I prefer no mouse mat.

Hard mousepads have less friction, but they may wear down the mouse "feet" faster. They also work slightly better for laser mice since the surface is uniform.
Soft mousepads have slightly more friction and don't wear down the mouse feet.
I prefer soft mousepads.

It shouldn't matter too much, as long as it doesn't have a sleek surface along with a design as that can disrupt optical mice.
