I'm bored and I'm thinking of buying it
Does minecraft kill boredom?
Is does for my son. Its taken over his life.
Get some magic mushrooms and a hammock. Maybe a glass of red wine. You'll be fine!
Personally, I'd say yes, absolutely. Think of it as and endless box of legos- you can easily tinker with it forever, always coming up with something new. You can very easily dump a few hours into building the perfect automated base, or totally recreating every detail of your house.
And even if you do get bored of the base content, there are countless mods and custom maps- I recently downloaded an absolutely massive one, and spent about two hours on it without even completely exploring the starting "town" (the map is comprised of a chain of large islands.)
Ok. So here's how it works with Minecraft…
You buy it, you play survival mode. You learn the game. You sink god-only-knows how many hours into it, and realize it's 4 AM and you have stuff to do that day.
Then it starts to wear off a little. You play here and there. At this stage, it's best to get some friends to play with, and if you're playing on console, you can have up to 4 people playing at your house at once.
Don't have any real friends? Just get some online ones! Go to forums to find people (unless you're on PS4, then you can join a community and meet tons of people that play).
Then it'll be fun again for a while. You'll meet some great people that you'll be lifelong friends with.
Then, for some reason, it'll start slipping again. This is the time to enter hardcore mode or creative mode with adventure mode in mind.
Ok, so hardcore mode is permanent-death. PC users get this option from the game, whereas console gamers have to delete their save manually using the "honor system".
Creative mode with adventure mode in mind? This is where you start building a world of your own from the ground up. Ultimately, this is where you decide what to create and share with your friends and people online.
Will you build a dark maze? A spooky castle? A haunted forest? A deadly dungeon? A portal to the nether? A journey that leads to the grand treasure? The options are limitless.
And that's where I'm going to wrap this up. This game is a mirror of YOU. The more fun you are, the more fun this game will be. Ultimately, it comes down to how creative you are. If you are a master creator, this game has infinite possibilities.
Now for your question, a direct answer. Does Minecraft kill boredom? That answer lies within you. My question to YOU is, will you run out of ideas? If you think you will, you will get bored. However, the only way to become more creative is to practice, and Minecraft is a great trainer of creativity.
Honestly, this game is so massive, I'm still having trouble digesting it, and I've been playing it on and off for years. I still don't fully understand this game. Maybe 25% of it, if I'm lucky.
The better question is… Do you enjoy playing sandbox games?
Minecraft is one of the ultimate sandbox titles where you can do pretty much whatever you like. Build a house, create a city, explore the depths underground, & hunt hostile mobs are just a few things you can do in the game. You're only limited by your imagination & dedication.
Some tasks you set out to do in Minecraft can become tedious (like clearing an area out before building or laying down multiple kilometers of blocks for rail systems or whatnot), but whatever you done in the game will leave a mark on that world. It may not totally conquer boredom, but can definitely keep you occupied.
Yes it is fun learning from scratch what minecraft is and trying to survive that first night.
Yes. It's a HUGE time passer game.
