Does Minecraft for PC ever go on sale? - 1

Minecraft (PC) was on sale BEFORE it's official released on 11/18/2011… So the probability of the game going on sale in the future is HIGHLY IMPROBABLE as a result (because it was on sale the whole time prior to the official release).

Back in the "Alpha Phase" (prior to 12/20/2010), the game was available for 50% off the release price (which would be € 10 OR currency equivalent ) & included Notch's promise that all future releases & updates would be available at no additional cost to players.

In the "Beta Phase" (12/20/2010 - 11/18/2011), the game was available for 25% off the release price (which would be € 15 OR currency equivalent), but Notch's promise was removed as well (bug updates would still be provided freely, but DLC stuff would be excluded).

The "Final" or "Official Release" came out on 11/28/2011, which was set at the full release price (of € 20) as well setting the price for other currencies at that time (US being $ 27 & UK being £ 17. Other currencies utilize the Euro equivalent).

Since the official release version of Minecraft, the price has remained the same for the PC version without any discounts in the foreseeable future. The prepaid cards that you can find in stores (like Walmart, Best Buy, Gamestop, ect.) do have 2-packs available for $49 US, which is a slight discount (being ~$2.50 / copy off). Since Minecraft can only be purchased through Mojang (either directly online OR with a prepaid card), no site will have the game on sale.

Microsoft will release a "Windows 10 Beta Edition" of Minecraft for a limited time at $10 (while in beta) in the Microsoft Marketplace, but will be free current premium players. The Windows 10 Edition will be specifically geared for Windows 10 & will be separate from the official version (that runs on Java to be OS-independent)… Which is about as close as you'll get to a sale for Minecraft.

This version will have cross-platform support with the XBox AND Pocket editions (which is pretty rare feature) in addition to having "Notch's Promise". It'll be available starting July 29th, 2015 (the same day that Windows 10 is officially released).
