From the shop? Not quite sure what you mean by that. It sounds like your talking about Xbox, not the computer. You do not need internet to play minecraft, I don't think, nor with the computer, you just can't play on servers with friends. P.S. Xbox is cheaper than PC, but PC minecraft is better

I assume you are talking about purchasing a gift card from a retail store.

You will need internet access to create a Mojang account, download the launcher, and download the game files. After that, you won't need internet access. Keep in mind that playing offline will not allow you to join any online-mode servers.

For PCs you need the internet to download the game and create your account. Once you have an account and use it to log in once, you won't need the internet anymore to play single-player games.

The XBOX and PS3 disc versions will need the internet once to create an account (I believe) and after that you will be fine for offline mode.

You need the internet up and running at all times to play multiplayer.
