I downloaded Mincraft on my laptop and created my account on Mojang. When I launch it like it's supposed to, it will say my graphics card is outdated. When I click the link it gives to update it, it will say that it is already up to date. This leads me to believe that I need a new graphics card that will allow me to play Minecraft. I have a Gateway LT41P04u laptop. Where could I get a good graphics card that will help me play Minecraft?
Can I get a new graphics card to let me play Minecraft?
You can't replace the graphics chip unless it's a specially made laptop that allows you to do such a thing.
Garunteed that this laptop is not one of those laptops.
New laptop, or desktop. That'll be cheaper. That's the only way you'll be able to play minecraft well.
Maybe with a fire ax and a lot of duct tape, you might upgrade graphics. There's no "card" because the graphics is in a chip that is soldered onto the motherboard. Almost all lower cost laptops are that way. Only a few Alienware, Asus, Sanger and other brands have a tiny interchangeable daughter board with graphics chip.
If your laptop has a USB 3.0 port, you could get a high performance USB-to-HDMI external video adapter for an external monitor. But I don't think it would be much faster, if at all.
For those laptops with a 34mm or 52mm wide ExpressCard slot for PCI-e external use, a ViDock or similar card holder and power supply might run graphics very fast. That plus card plus monitor would be over $600 USD. Not very portable either.
Or you could get a fancier gaming laptop. Or even better, build a gaming desktop.
