Sorry to say but the more difficult ones are the ones that will have the best results in the end. I really don't use games with built-in map makers. I just use game engines playgrounds to make worlds.
You could try the hammer editor for Source games. Like Team Fortress 2, Half Life S-on. I find that thing a bit clunky though.
