I love making Minecraft videos, but too many popular idiots that don't know what they're doing make them. Which means, I won't ever get popular making them. I would love YouTube as a job, but as of now, it's not looking too well.
What is there left to make videos on? Something interesting, something fun, something everyone would enjoy.
You're just trying to do what others have already done, and are expecting to get popular for doing it.
"Which means, I won't ever get popular making them" is a very poor way of looking at it, and is the main reason why it's not working for you. Popularity is not based on your ideals, it's based on the tastes of the average YouTube user. The "idiots" know this, and that's why they succeed.
There's no room on YouTube for intellectual stimulation, entertainment or education. It's quick, cheap escapism.
Such is life.
Think about something you like doing, but you have never seen on YouTube. This is called "being creative." Also, don't plan on becoming popular or making a living on YouTube. If you try too hard nobody will watch you. Just appreciate the audience you have and let it expand naturally, all the while doing what you like.
