So I'm a High School Student looking to buy a laptop. So mostly I'm gonna use the laptop at home. But if there's a need to bring it, mostly I will use it for 3 subjects. So 5 hrs would be the minimum battery life. In my spare time, I want to play light games like minecraft. Also, I'm gonna keep this until before college without deleting a file. Since I want a hybrid, I'm willing to spend up to $ 900.

You have lots in HP. You can try buyng 4th gen laptops with core i3 or i5 processor that runs on windows 8. If you are not comfortable with windows OS you can buy DOS laptops, so you can instal any OS on that.
4GB RAM and 500 HDD is more that enough.Since you wanna play games so look for graphic card also.
1GB dedicated graphic card will do.

5 hrs battery? Expecting too much, i have hp 2000 i purchased it when i was in college, cheap, simple, core2duo, 4gb ram, 500 gb hdd, running fine since 3 years, 4 hrs battery, and many feature, you should give a try, i live in India and purchased it for rs.22000(450$ approx.)

I have to recommend the Mac Book Air. It recently got a price cut and now starts at $899.00 (USD) Excluding tax if you have tax where you live. I think it gets about 8 hours of battery life.
