Need advice about making a toy for my son?

I'm planning on making him a creeper (from minecraft) stuffed toy but I can't decide what fabric to use. I can either get fleece, which will be super soft and nice, or get fabric to replicate the look of a creeper but it won't be soft and cuddly. He's three, so I want to go with the idea that he won't care of how authentic it will look and will only want to cuddle, but I'm a stickler for authenticity… What should I do?
