How much data does Minecraft use?

1. Multiplayer servers (online - not hosted on your network) don't take up much data, i'm guessing about 50 -150 MB per person per hour
2. Lan games ( where only the people on your network can connect to and not people on the internet) take up no data so have fun
3. Singleplayer also take up no data
4. Signing in takes up a max of 50MB but thats only for MAJOR updates. Normally less than 1 MB is used per login

all my data size estimates are on the high side ( it will rarely reach that level)

I just did some actual calculations with some tests. In an hour, you'll barely use up 1MB of data, if even that. It all depends on how many players and how much data NEEDS to be sent. The rest of the methods of playing require a few bytes of data, don't worry about that.

But what if i want to host a private online server on my own home machine? Only one other person will join my server, that's for sure. How much will the game consume in that case?

So a multiplayer game like hunger games only takes around 150 mb an hour for me?

How does LAN use data? For all we know you can make a hotspot in your mobile while mobile data is off and make other people join it

I have a limit on my Wi-Fi, 25gb per month because we live sort of in the county and they have unlimited Wi-Fi for the people at the ends of our street but they won't connect it for the people in the middle. So we have satellite.

Please Let Me Know If I'm Mistaken, But This Is The Way I'm Taking It… I find this sort of rude, you don't know people circumstances and putting that on the Internet for anyone to see, not everyone can afford Internet, Numerous people don't even have Internet, so the people who even do, whether its 1GB, or more it's at least something, better then having nothing. No doubt in the future everyone will have at least a little bit of Internet, or even unlimited data, so if you have Unlimited now, or even any, you should consider yourself privileged. I played on my friends server with 3 other people and used 1.5gb/hr. Can someone explain that? I have my connection set to metered, and all background apps are shut down / data use turned off.

I'm having the same issue it been only a week and the minecraft server I played has already gone over the 40gb limit like it has mods but still that much that's is almost like 6-7gb everyday and I only play for 1 to maybe 10 hours everyday depending!
